The end of 2024 is the precise moment chosen by the Zaragoza band VENGANZA to return with a new album: DAMNATIO MEMORIAE. Translated as "condemnation of memory", it consisted of erasing all traces and assets of a person considered dishonorable by the people or by their political enemies. But they, far from being condemned to memory, are still very present with 10 new songs (including a cover of RIP) that continue exactly where they left off with their LP “tu patria” and their latest reference, the 7" “la fiera”. The wild, Iberian punk sound continues, straight to the jugular and leaving nothing standing, with just the right speed and the necessary arrangements that having 2 guitars gives them. Uncommon topics to deal with, but common in our thoughts, such as bars frequented by wood, modern people who show off the circled A with empty content, people who fill their mouths in assemblies to do nothing afterwards, exemplary workers who believe that one day they will inherit the company, and a long etc. of everyday realities, of OUR everyday realities. The commitment to the struggle continues, which is marked throughout the album's graphics: From the look of Francisco Ascaso on the cover, passing through the album's labels where we find on one side the plan of the old Torrero prison, which was restored today and reconverted into the CSO Kike Mur, and on the other the 3 scabs killed in the gas strike of 1920 in Zaragoza, executed by Inocencio Domingo de la Fuente. We finish with the back cover, where we see the laurel that was in the courtyard of the Torrero prison rise, a symbol of memory and which was left to die, condemned to Damnatio Memoriae. And as they themselves make clear; “We do not want to forget those who died in exile, those who conspired in secret, those who are in ditches covered in mud, those who collectivized the land, those who expropriated banks and companies, those who never kept silent, those who did not turn the other cheek, those who speak with their actions and not with words, those who paid and pay for their lives deprived of freedom, the brave of spirit and heart who took up and take up a weapon dreaming of a better world, the noisy bands that marked us so much and opened the way from IV Reich or Estigia to Animales Muertos or Kanzer D'Eskroto, those who opened and open the doors to new spaces of freedom, those who shout "Never say Dead"... For all those whom the State and Power have tried to silence with their Damnatio Memoriae.
