It’s not often that fuzzed-out C86 jangle and brash queercore find common musical ground, Flesh World's inception focused less on their other bands (Limp Wrist, Needles and Brilliant Colors), and more on their mutual love for drag shows and punk gigs, as their vision took form in the under dwellings of San Francisco’s DIY scene." -Max Mohenu/Pitchfork The Wild Animals In My Life is the first full album and second 12" sized record for this incredible reverb swarm. Knowing and growing from the past unto now, power is the underlying draw here. Lulled by the fist/pummeled by the euphoria. Hearty black vinyl in a heavyweight full color jacket with a poster insert even.
Our take: This debut LP (their earlier 12" was just an EP) from Flesh World is without a doubt one of my most anticipated releases of the summer, and man does it deliver! From the beginning this band has just been the perfect combination of sounds... dreamy, melodic, yet really heavy and abrasive when the situation calls for it. One of the things that I like so much about Flesh World is how unclassifiable they are; you can hear bits of other bands all over the place, but I can't think of another band that sounds precisely like them, who can blend the dreamy melodicism of shoegaze and c86 pop with the intensity and heaviness of hardcore punk. I suppose that sometimes-uneasy marriage of sounds is built into the band's DNA, since their ex-members list encompasses everything from Brilliant Colors to Limp Wrist and Needles. I don't want to make it sound like Flesh World are a one-trick pony, though; while their sound is instantly identifiable and immediately interesting, they're also great songwriters (as was shown perhaps most eloquently on their previous single for Iron Lung), and this 12" is packed with great melodies and brilliantly crafted songs. All in all this is just a top-notch LP in every respect... highly recommended.
