Demo cassette from this hardcore band out of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Our take: Demo cassette from this hardcore band out of the surprisingly fertile scene in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Wax definitely have an 80s USHC hardcore approach, but whereas most bands put the drums up front in the mix and concentrate on the speed and precision, Wax have the vocals way up front in the mix, which means that everything else in the band kind of takes a back seat to the vocals. That's not a bad thing, as the vocalist definitely has a much more interesting approach than your typical hardcore shouter, but placing the emphasis there means that this reminds me of bands like Dead Kennedys more than it does of, say, SOA or something like that. People who are super into bands sounding a certain way (whether it's a USHC homage or d-beat or black metal or whatever) may find this one easy to dismiss, but if you love young, slightly quirky hardcore bands give this one a try.
