Our take: Second compilation in this excellent series. As before, part of the point here seems to be to provide a corrective to the lack of gender diversity in recorded hardcore and punk music, as all of the bands here (unless I'm mistaken) feature non-male-identifying people in prominent roles, most often as the vocalist. Beyond that, the only thing that unites all of the bands here is a shared influence from some aspect of the punk rock spectrum. That being said, in addition to the diversity of people playing in the groups, there's way more musical diversity here than you'll find on most any other compilation out there. I'm not sure if that's related to the gender thing or just to the compilers' tastes, but not a single band here--even the heavier and more hardcore-influenced among them--sound like mere genre exercises, and nearly all of them push their respective sounds in really creative and interesting ways. There's a good mix here of bands you might have heard of like Priests, Violence Creeps (whose contribution should not be missed!), and Shopping, as well as a bunch more you probably haven't heard of. So, in other words, this is a great compilation, even better than the first volume in my humble estimation. Get it!
